QuestionI am currently running a Hydrologic "stealthRO200" reverse osmosis filter for two households growing carnivorous plants. I currently store 5 to 8 spare gallons of purified water in used 1 gallon plastic distilled water containers. Can you recommend a storage container size OR storage container material that can be SAFELY used without fear of contamination by metals, chemicals etc. or by stagnation? I live in an area where use of tap water is a NO-NO! It appears the two households are using approximately 4 gallons a week.
AnswerHi Richard,
There are all kinds of plastic storage containers made for water storage. The first ones that come to mind are the Rubbermaid dispenser jugs that have the little push-button pour dispenser at the bottom. They are used by camps and sports teams routinely for water and drinks, and come in all shapes and sizes. Here's an example: http://www.rubbermaid.com/Category/Pages/SubCategoryLanding.aspx?SubCatId=WaterC
You can also check the camping section of stores for 5 gallon jugs that have dispenser valves on them. I use one like that here for hand washing water during our open house. I got mine at BiMart, and this is what it looks like: http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Water-Carrier-5-Gallon-Blue/dp/B00168PI4S
If you're wanting to avoid plastic, the 5 gallon carboy glass jugs could get the job done: http://www.amazon.com/Gallon-Glass-Carboy-Beer-Making/dp/B000E60GYK/ref=sr_1_2?i
Tons of options are out there. You just need to see what will best work for you.
Good Growing!
