QuestionWe bought our Tropical Pitcher Plant at the Portland Saturday Market three weeks ago and live in Gresham. It sits in direct afternoon sun. Since we've moved it into the sun and it's been hot, we've noticed the last few days (the over 90 days) that the new growth has dried. We have kept it moist but maybe it is still too hot. What do you think? Should we replant it? Move it out of the sun? Or water it more?
Thanks so much.
AnswerHi Sara,
Is your plant indoors or out? With this heat you should back it away from the window some if it's in a particularly hot location, or intermingle it with other houseplants. If you have it outdoors it should have partial shade. An afternoon exposure will be too hot. When we put any of our Nepenthes outdoors we usually locate them among trees or shrubs. You should definitely be watering your plant daily while it is hot. It's even ok to set it in a shallow tray of water as long as it's not that way long term. Go back to regular watering once our temperatures are back in the 70's.
Good Growing!
