QuestionJeff,
I have a question regarding ultra-highland Nepenthes...for example, N. rajah, N. aristolochioides, N. villosa, N. edwardsiana, and N. macrophylla. Do these Nepenthes have special growing requirements other than typical highland Nepenthes??
Also, have you ever tried germinating Nepenthes seeds using coir? Would you recommend this as an alternative to LF sphagnum moss??
Many thanks,
Derick
AnswerHi Derick,
All of those need temperatures in the 70's during the day and low 60's to upper 50's at night with elevated humidity. Of the 5 you mentioned, aristolochioides is the easiest. N. edwardsiana is next to impossible to get and very expensive if you do find one. They are also very touchy from what other growers tell me. N. macrophylla is not too hard to get and not super difficult. All are slow growing.
Coir is fine for Nepenthes seedlings. Just soak and rinse it well to remove any traces of salt. This is all that Sam at Lelani uses to germinate Nepenthes.
Good Growing!
