QuestionHello, I just received several plants from you and they look good so far. My question is actually about a flytrap I purchased at Lowe's a couple of weeks ago. It is out of dormancy, has already caught a couple of bugs out in my yard. The plant is approximately 4" across and is in a square pot with 3.5" sides that is 3" high. It appears to be in pure sphagnum moss. Should I re-pot to a larger pot with the sphagnum peat moss / perlite mixture now or should I wait until after next winter dormancy? I live in Northern Illinois.
Thanks
AnswerDefinitely repot now. It's always best to get a plant out of improper media as soon as possible rather than waiting. Pure sphagnum moss isn't good for flytraps because it retains too much moisture and doesn't provide sufficient aeration. We've seen many flytraps perish in that media. Use mixture of equal parts peat moss and perlite.
Good growing!
