QuestionMy fish do best if I use 0.1% salt in the pond and it doesn't seem to affect the fresh water pond plants at all. Can Sarracenia and Dionaea live with this much salt if I grow them in a bog attached to the pond?
AnswerThis concentration is much too high for carnivorous plants. Your concentration translates to 1000 parts per million (ppm). Carnivorous plants need water that's less than 50 ppm in total dissolved solutes. They can survive in water that that contains 200 ppm of dissolved solutes for a few months with minor detriment to their leaves, but they may not survive after a year. In general, carnivorous plants require relatively pure water that is very low in minerals, if any.
If you want to grow carnivorous plants, you'll need to keep them out of your pond and grow them in trays instead. For more information about growing carnivorous plants, read our care sheets online.
