Too late to be ordering bareroot plants?

Question
Hi,

I'm about 30 minutes away from Winston-Salem and I live in Walnut Cove NC in zone 7. I'd like to know if it's still safe to plant sarracenia bareroot in my area. The sarracenia in my bog that I have growing so far have flowered and sent up some pitchers already, but they have not opened yet. I don't know if all this matters, I just thought it might help. Any advice you can give would be great. By the way, you guys have some awesome looking S rubra plants!

Thanks,

Daniel

Answer
Hi Daniel,

If you're simply doing planting/repotting it's fine to do it nearly any time of year.  Early spring is just the most optimal time.  Just try to minimize root disturbance, but with Sarracenia, even that isn't a big deal.  The big rule is just to not do any division once you are into full active growth.  It tends to set them back some.

Glad you like the plants.

Good Growing!
