N. Sanguinea

Question

Sanguinea Picture
Hey guys Jason from AZ here. I have asked this question before about my Sanguinea and the leaves not unfolding well. It finally produced a picture but the newer leaves are still not forming well. It's in a west window and is fertilized every two weeks. I have enclosed a picture. I hope it will grow out of this as the season progresses. Thank you for any further advice.
Jason

Answer
I'm glad you showed me a close up photo of your plant.  This helped me out a lot.  You might have an issue with tiny pests called thrips.  You sometimes have to use a magnifying glass to see them, but your plant is showing some of the classic signs of this pest.  Spray your plant with an insecticide.  If you use a topical insecticide, such as pyrethrin or Neem, spray all areas and make sure the leaves are well coated.  You should repeat the process in 5-7 days.  You can also use a systemic insecticide.  But still make sure to coat the leaves thoroughly.  As always, follow the directions provided by the manufacturer.

The leaf damage is permanent, so you'll need to wait until you see new growth for normal looking leaves.

For more information on using insecticides, watch our video podcast on the topic.

Good growing!
