QuestionCan I trim off the existing pitchers when I put them in the refrigerator come fall/winter time for their hibernation period?
Both of my pitcher plants have responded well to the hibernation time but with them growing taller it's sort of hard to the pots have on one of the shelves in the frig with the pitchers leaning over.
I've followed the instructions per your first dvd and everything has worked out fine for spring preparation.
AnswerHi Herb,
It's fine to trim pitchers off, and in most cases it's beneficial. Mold will usually start on dead pitchers, so getting those off is just good hygiene. With S. purpurea or S. psittacina leave a few leaves on those. Same with hybrids of those such as Scarlet Belle which don't tend to drop their leaves in winter, and have small rhizomes.
Good Growing!
