Question
Limp
I replanted all my nepenthes last weekend since spring is here and coming..but, my N. tobaica went limp.. kind of like it went into shock.. It is still green and has a small pitcher alive on it trying to grow.. All my nepenthes are in a North window doing great.. This one was to until i replanted it.. I have a huge bay window they are sitting in they get I guess it would be indirect light all day long. I have blinds facing down so the light is shinning on them all day..I am using Cobraplant soil that I bought from them.. I water them right now once a week or when the plastic pot feels light. I live in Sacramento California. I had this plant for about 2 years now I believe or longer.. I don't know what to do to help it come back strong again..Thanks for the help..
AnswerHi Juanita,
It looks like you may have damaged the roots some (which is pretty easy to do) during the transplant. Here's a couple things you can do. See if you can increase the humidity for the plant. You may need to rig up a little tent for it with a large plastic bag. If you're in a North window you shouldn't have much direct sun, so the location should be ok. Leave it in the tent for about 3 weeks so the root system has time to recover. In addition to doing that, see if you can get some Superthrive, and use two drops in the water every time you water. A very weak orchid fertilizer would be of benefit too. Use no more than 1/8 of a teaspoon per gallon of water once a week. Transplanting shock isn't uncommon, so you'll just need to give it time.
After the three weeks begin cutting a few holes in the bag to allow more air in over the course of two weeks until the plant can handle normal room humidity. This is known as "hardening off".
Good Growing!
