Question
Dainas delight sarrace
Hello, I recently ordered a Dainas delight sarracenia hybrid from you guys about a month ago. I read in a news letter recently that "you should be seeing significant growth", and I haven't. Upon arrival, I transplanted it into a 6 or so inch pot that has drainage holes, with the standard soil mix that you guys sell. I made sure it was well moistened upon transplant. It now sits in a large plant pot base that keeps full of water, easily thanks to recent rain and snow. It's been sitting on my deck that gets almost full sun. I live in Portland, Oregon. Thanks!
AnswerHmmm... I'm curious where you read that. I reviewed the newsletters for both February and March, and I didn't see that phrase, "you should be seeing significant growth." If you heard it on our video podcast, it would likely be in reference to USDA zones 9 and 10. The Portland area is zone 8, and plants are still dormant, especially after the recent bouts of snow and hail. Typically we won't see any new growth on Sarracenia until the day temperatures are consistently in 60s. For this season, you may need to wait until May. Daina's Delight is also considered a late season plant, so you'll see it's best pitchers in late summer and early fall. So time and patience are the only things you need to add to your general care.
