Pygmy Sundew

Question
Hello, i recieved a pygmy Sundew with my recent order from you guys and no dew is producing on the leaves. I have  no repotted yet and i have it standing in a dish of distilled water about 1/2 and inch and putting it on my fire escape for light. it gets mostly indirect sunlight (~10hours)and the occasional direct sun. I live in New York City and moved it indoors incase it was too cold and put it about 12 inches under a bright florecent light. (2x18 watts T5 bulbs for aquariums).

Answer
Hi Calvin,

Mucilage production in sundews is a direct result of photosynthesis/light exposure.  Low light = no dew.  Because the plant has been moved outside and in, the changing conditions have probably affected it also.

Your T-5 lights are a good plan.  Unless it's too hot, I would move the plant to 6 inches from the lights.  Pygmy sundews are tropical, and like full, hot sun.  Make sure the plant always has water to sit in, and give it some time.  If it's a Drosera scorpiodes, you'll see the newer tentacles redden up some.  If you consider putting it outside, wait until late spring.  They don't like cool weather.

Good Growing!
