Question
D. rotundifolia
Allexperts,
I have a Drosera Rotundifolia that is coming out of dormancy a bit early, or at least appears to being coming out of dormancy. The crown of the plant has little plant lets that have begone to unfurl. Can I leave the plant where it is? I have a picture attached on to the email. We have had an uncharacteristically warm winter, the weather has been warmer than normal. This not the only plant that I have that has awaken from dormancy. My Drosera Dichotoma has also came out of dormancy. Would the plant have any problems if I put under some CFL? Thank you for your time. Let me know if you need any more information.
Growing conditions:
water= distilled
soil= peat+ perlite mix.
room temp. = 35-45 degrees maybe higher.
obtained from= Sarracenia Northwest.
Sincerely,
Weylin
AnswerHi Weylin,
Your D. binata dichotoma would be fine if you put it under a light. They don't seem to mind a very short dormancy. The rotundifolia I would leave where you have it with natural light. Sometimes they will begin to edge out of dormancy when it's a little warmer, but photoperiod means quite a bit to it's seasonal clues. D. rotundifolia likes a longer dormancy, and probably won't totally start growing till late February to early March.
Good Growing!
