Nepenthes Repotting

Question
Hello,

I have a Nepenthes Sanguinea that has been growing for the last 3 years in a 3 in plastic pot. The plant itself is starting to really vine out as though it's ready to begin climbing, and some of the leaves are 8 - 9.5 inches long, not including the pitchers. Is there a way to encourage the plant to stop glowing up as a vine and encourage growth in the lower parts of the vine to make it a "fuller" plant opposed to a long viney plant?

Thank you for your time!

Answer
Hi James,

To get the fuller, bushier appearance you need to cut the plant back.  Nepenthes sanguinea will always start forming long vines as it gets older.  You just cut stems in-between leaf-nodes, sort of like pruning a tree.  The plant will then start forming new growth from the dormant node closest to where you cut.  Your pieces you cut off can be rooted, and N. sanguinea roots fairly easily.  We have detailed information in our volume #3 DVD on how to root cuttings.  http://cobraplant.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=38&products_id=257

Good Growing!
