QuestionHi
I live in Walnut Cove and my growing zone is 7. I recently purchased some flytraps (probably just wrapping up their first year or second. I have potted them, but I want to know if it would help if I buried the pots in my bog for greater protection for winter with mulch on top. Does this help or make sense at all?
Thanks for you help,
Daniel Bunton
AnswerHi Daniel,
Like any young plant they are going to be more tender, plus they are not established in pots or a bog garden. Definitely mulch them well. If you have access to pine straw, that is an excellent mulch since it breathes some, and is acidic.
If you have control over when you purchase these, spring is a much better time of the year to do this unless you have a cold-frame greenhouse.
Good Growing!
