QuestionHi, my Sarracenia Leucophylla bloomed a few monts ago in the start of summer. Now I see that it is blooming yet again in October. Should I be concerned? For information purposes I live in zone 10.
AnswerNope! This is actually a common occurrence. During the hottest parts of summer, leucophylla, flava, and oreophila, enter a short dormancy. They do this to preserve water. When the summer heat is over, they sometimes produce a second set of flowers. The flowers, however, are usually shorter. You won't get any seeds from them since they won't have time to fully develop before winter arrives. The second set of flowers does not interfere with the plants normal growth habits.
Good growing!
