Fir bark for sarracenia

Question
Hi
Is it ok to use the nepenthes plant soil  mix which includes fir bark in repotting some sarracenias.
One is a perpuria type...I bought the nepenthes mix from cobra plants in Oregon and have
Some I never used....is it safe to use on saraccenias.....?
Thanks very much
Is it too late this year to repot them...?
Thank you very much

Answer
Sarracenia grows best in a mix of equal parts peat moss and perlite.  If you have some Nepenthes mix (dried sphagnum moss, perlite and bark), you can mix into the peat/perlite mixture for your Sarracenia.  Sarracenia will tolerate some bark in the soil.  Your new mix should have more of the peat/perlite mixture than the Nepenthes mixture.  Avoid using the Nepenthes mix straight for your Sarracenia, and avoid using the new mix with flytraps or sundews.  They don't do well with bark in the soil.

Good growing!
