QuestionMystery Sarracenia
QUESTION: I have been growing this plant for a few months now yet I don't know what it is. When I bought it at my local nursery there was a sticker on the pot saying SARRECENIA SP. There was some others there but only one was full grown. It almost looked like they were all different. I don't think its a "sweet pitcher" but maybe a parrot pitcher. It grows really fast until a certain size. There also is a strange curved leaf on the right. Its been growing in full sun with distilled water and in 1 part peat 1 part perlite. Please identify it for me
ANSWER: Hi Birch,
It's a little hard to tell what plants this is without mature leaves on it, but it looks like a S. psittacina hybrid, very possibly "Scarlet Belle". It could also be a simple S. psittacina x S. leucophylla hybrid (S. X wrigleyana), instead of the specific cultivar.
You have your plant in good growing conditions. Make sure it has a small amount of water in the tray the pot sits in.
The strange leaf looks like a leaf that grew in low light conditions, and possibly had aphid damage. I would just cut it off. It's of little benefit to the plant at this point.

QUESTION: Thank you a lot for responding, I also would like to know how large these hybrids grow.
AnswerHi Birch,
This Sarracenia hybrid is a smaller grower usually staying a foot tall or less. It will form beautiful clumps over time. Here's a link to some photos: http://www.cpphotofinder.com/sarracenia-x-wrigleyana-3326.html
