Question
I live on Long Island (Zone 7) and would love to order and plant S. flava and S. leocophylla, but between summer heat in the 80s and 90s plus transplant shock (even though I know Sars are supposed to handle this well)  I wonder if I should better wait until next spring. Guidance?

Hi Dick,

Sarracenia are some of the easiest plants I know to transplant, and I mean that over many non-carnivorous plants.  As long as the roots never dry out in the process you'll be fine.  A Superthrive dip is always beneficial to them too.  The main thing you don't want to do in active growth is divide rhizomes.  That will set a plant back, especially this late in the summer.  You may not see spectacular growth, especially since flava's are at the point of making their phyllodia by this time.  The leucophylla may still put up a nice set of leaves for you.
