QuestionHey guys i was interested in buying the Southern Dew thread you guys have on the site. I was just wondering why its growing season starts a month after the Venus flytraps and why it ends a month earlier even thought they live in the same zone. I do understand that different plants in the same zone have different growing seasons but was just curious because they both live in climates that have a long growing season.
AnswerHi Ishan,
The Venus flytrap and the Southern Dewthread (Drosera filiformis ssp. trayci) originate in different places. The Venus flytrap is from the coastal areas of North and South Carolina, and the Dewthread comes from the Florida panhandle. Even though both are rated USDA zone 8, the gulf coast has a slightly longer growing season. The zone is based on known low temperatures that area can experience.
Good Growing!
