Drosera seedling help!

Question
Hello, I sowed Drosera seeds about 2.5 weeks ago and they have germinated. What I didn't think about it how many there were going to be. I have 2 big containers. they are both 12"x8". There are at LEAST 2000 seeds in each container. There are Sphatulatas, South Africas, FIliformis, Belem, Indica, Intermedia, TONS of Capensis, and Capilaris. I only have about 25 4" pots to put them in. I was to keep a fiarly large deal of them my self, but I want to sell some too. I know that they will choke each other out if I don't transplant them. Should I wait until they all germinate, get a spoon and spoon some soil and the seedlings onto a 4" pot with soil already in it? IDK if this helps but I've grown Carnivorous plants for about 4 years. I may be able to get about 40-100 more pots. And I sorta want to wait until they get larger so I know which is which. Ex: I don't want to sell all the Filiformis on accident. Please help.

Thanks,

~Braxton

Answer
Hi Braxton,

This is lesson all of us learn the hard way when growing plants from seed.  You'll need to wait until they are a little larger to try and sort out what you can transplant out.  If they are slightly larger you'll be able to separate roots more easily, and have less loss from damage.  You'll probably find some plants easy to separate out, then others will be just a lost cause because they are so clumped.  Also, you have plants like Drosera indica that don't transplant well anyway.

When you grow some in the future it is good to use something like a cell-plug tray and put just a few seeds in each plug.  It's time consuming to sow them, and often you need to do it with set of close-up lenses, but it will save you lots of grief later.

Good Growing!
