Question
Hey guys, I have a Dewy Pine that's about 2.5 to 3 years old and it's sending up its first flower. I read in the Savage Garden that after flowering the plant should be kept on the dry side. Could you tell me what you recommend for care for the plant in the flowering stage? The plant is in full sun at least 10 hrs direct. Thanks Jason

Hi Jason,

I haven't found much of a need for changing the watering routine during blooming.  I keep them about the same where I water heavily when the soil starts to feel dry on top and down into the media some, then wait until it starts to dry again before adding more water.  It depends some on your temperatures.  With a plant that old, you may have already discovered that they tend to dry out faster than you would be led to believe by things you read in the literature.  Drosophyllum has no water storage mechanism, so they wilt rather quickly when they go bone dry.  In nature their roots probably go down very deep similar to many dry land plants.  If it's really hot where you keep the plant, you can leave a little water in the pot's tray.  Just don't leave them permanently in water the way you would with sundews.
