scale on Cephalotus

Hello!

Last fall I obtained a nice Cephalotus.  Didn't notice any issues at the time though I did look the plant over.  Currently, my plant seems to have a soft scale infestation.  Considering all the little pointy hairs on it I don't see that it would be practical to try rubbing the scale off with an alcohol soaked cotton swab.  (not to mention I'm afraid such an effort would damage the pitchers).  Is there anything I can use to wipe out the scale without harming the plant?

Answer
The best treatment for scales is a systemic insecticide, such as imidacloprid or acephate.  You can find these compounds at any garden center.  They are safe to use on carnivorous plants.  Just make sure to follow the directions provided by the manufacturer.
