QuestionHi, I found 2 carnivorous plants I am interested in growing. I live in a high-rise apartment building. What do you know about the Sarracenia purpurea (aka Jersey Girl Purple Pitcher Plant, & Heliamphora Tatei. After some research, these are plants I would like to have. I already know they have to watered with distilled water, & have to use soil such as peat moss/perlite mix. Thanks.
Answer
Heliamphora pulchella
Thank you for your question. For general information about Sarracenia purpurea and Heliamphora tatei I would recommend visiting and reading at the various forums and websites online. There are also several books that are excellent for general information about these and other carnivorous plants. Heliamphora tatei can sometimes become fairly large (the stems can form a mass like a vine that can become 5 feet or more in length) and may be more comfortable in a greenhouse than inside a home. Sarracenia purpurea is very easy to grow, while some species of Heliamphora might require some familiarity and experience with the plant in order to grow it well.
