QuestionHello there I was wondering if I could grow a cephalotus in a lightly shaded western window with temperatures at 80-95f at day and at 40f at night, also can I grow a heliamphora under a fluorescent light equivalent to a 100watts at temperatures of 70-79 and at 40f at night.
AnswerHi Yulian,
With those cool nighttime temperatures both plants should do well. A little trick that works well with both plants is to place the pot of the plants into a larger glazed ceramic pot that comes up around the inner pot. That makes it so that sun can only strike the top of the plant and the soil, but not the roots. You get plenty of sun that way, but the roots don't overheat. Just be sure not to keep too much water in the outer pot. It's easy to over-water if you don't pay attention to how much water is in the bottom. We describe this technique in our volume #3 DVD.
Out of curiosity, you're in Puerto Rico aren't you? I wouldn't have guessed that you would get down in the 40's at night.
Good Growing!
