QuestionSorry, this might seem a dumb question. Lately I've noticed some of my traps have gone "missing" or being bitten. I've noticed that its due to birds pecking at the traps or removing the traps from the petiole. They seem to target the largest traps which is frustrating.
Is there anything I can do????
AnswerSome birds, squirrels and other animals are occasionally pests to Venus Flytraps, and the most frequent solution short of killing the particular birds or other animals is to find a way to protect the plants, inside a wire cage, or grown inside instead of outside, or in a greenhouse.
Animal pests are a frustrating problem. Many birds eat seeds, but some eat vegetable matter and some will destroy or damage Venus Flytraps in search of insects to eat in the moist growing medium that Venus Flytraps are grown in.
I would ask this question at one of the online carnivorous plant forums to get a greater variety of answers from other people who have dealt with this same problem. Two forums are listed below.
