QuestionI have a Nepenthes Ventricosa and it has no pitchers on it and i have it in a soil mix of long fibered sphagnum/perlite mix and i keep it moist but not water logged with disstelled water and i give it about 4-5 hours of direct sunlight in a south facing window and so should i put it in a terrarium so it will produce pitchers? Or should i not?
AnswerHi Ean,
Lack of pitchers is usually caused by the short days in the winter. Longer days encourages more pitcher production. We have lots of plants in our Nepenthes greenhouse with no pitchers this time of year, and humidity is usually 70-80% in there. If you boost the daylight hours with artificial light you would see better pitcher production. A terrarium won't help that much, and could create other problems. Terrariums in windows are always a bad idea since direct sun will cook plants inside one.
Good Growing!
