Question
European Wasp Eater
Hi guys,
I live in Victoria, Australia not far from Melbourne. I just
bought a carnivorous plant from my garden center. It was
sold as European Wasp Eater - so far I don't think it has
caught any wasps but is readily filling its tubes with house
flies.
Could you please advise what type of plant this is so I can
best care for it. At the moment it lives on my south facing
window sill and is constantly sat in about 2" of rain water.
I saw pictures from your site of them in the snow - could I
just plant this outside?
Thanks for your help!!
Jamie
AnswerEuropean Wasp Killer?! It should be called an American Wasp Killer. Your plant is a Sarracenia hybrid, and all Sarracenia are native to the United States and Canada. Some Sarracenia are known for capturing lots of wasps and yellow jackets. These plants produce a nectar that wasps find irresistible. House flies are also fond of the nectar.
It's too extensive to cover the care of this plant in this format. Please read our care sheet on our main website:
