Question
after watching your videos for a while i have decided to grow my cp's outside. i am a little stuck if i should be growing some types outside. i grow
1. 3 typical fly traps
2. drosera aliciae (there are about 10 in the pot with more coming up all the time)
3. sarracenia flava
4. sarracenia purpurea
5. pinguicula tina
6. nepenthes sanguinia
i water with rain water and keep them in full sun all day long. i mist them everyday (espicially the nepenthes)with the same water i water them with. i am considering getting either sarracenia psittisina or drosera capensis. is this ok?

Hi Connor,

The plants we advocate growing outdoors are those that are temperate species.  Of your list that includes the Sarracenia, Venus Flytraps.  All of your others are tropical or sub-tropical.  Those won't be able to tolerate freezing temperatures in the winter.

Nepenthes can be outdoors during the summer if given partial shade.

Tropical sundews are fine outdoors right next to temperate species as long as brought in before freezes.

I don't recommend having Mexican butterworts outdoors (such as your P. x Tina) unless you have a fairly shady place for it.  Their leaves burn easily outside in full sun.

North American species along with European butterworts and other temperate sundews should be outdoors all year.  They may need extra protection during extended temperatures below 25 degrees F since they are usually potted plants.
