pond algae

Question
I have a pond/fountain that my fly traps and sarracenia pitcher plants are in.  The algae is growing.  What can I put in the water to kill the algae and not damage my plants?  Thank You.

Answer
Hi Eric,

Anything strong enough to kill the algae will probably kill you plants too.  The algae isn't going to hurt your plants, but if you want to be rid of it, you'll need to clean it out physically.  If it is a larger pond, circulation helps since it encourages organisms that eat algae such as Daphnia.  Water hyacinths help also since they pull out most of the nutrients.

Good Growing!
