P. Titan Mexican Butterwort rephrase

Question
Hi my original info is below. My question is is it healthy? is there something I am doing wrong? It just doesnt seem to be growing well but its my first one so I wanted to ask before it died.

Hi I have a Mexican Butterwort P. Titan It is super small (whole plant is less than an inch) and is growing very slowly. It grows new leaves and looses the older ones so its constantly about a 3 or 4 leaf plant. I have had it under CFL light and I have recently moved it to my window sill. I have it in a mix of peat and Sphagnum and its in an African Violet 2 piece pot. It is kept inside. I have had it about a year when it was sent to me it had no roots at all.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question.

Hi Misti,

Thank-you for sending the picture.

Your plant looks fine.  P. x "titan" has a reputation for being slow growing at times.  They also tend to have about a 4-5 month dormancy.  Your growing conditions are alright, but it could benefit from being in a soil media with more drainage.  Most growers use mixes of peat, perlite, pumice, sand and sphagnum moss.  Here's a link to our caresheet pages:  http://cobraplant.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=30

To give your butterwort more of a boost in growth you need to feed it.  Mexican butterworts benefit greatly from a weak foliar fertilier.  Spray it once a week with an orchid fertilzer mixed 1 teaspoon per gallon of water.  Try to find one that is urea-free, and high nitrogen, low phosphorous. (Phosphorous is the middle number, nitrogen the first.)  If Titans are getting more food they can actually become quite large.  We used to call them the carnivorous cabbage.

Good Growing!
