QuestionHi Jeff and Jacob,
I picked up some new sarracenias and flytraps from your last open house and was looking for a new conatainer to keep them in. I found an old aluminum roasting pan with a slotted bottom and a drain pan under it. Is it ok to use aluminum containers for these plants? I will be using the 50/50 peat perlite mix and get my water from a reverse osmosis water filter.
Thanks much, Byron
AnswerHi Byron,
Although aluminum probably isn't harmful to carnivorous plants, I try to stay away from any kind of metal containers. Peat moss is full of tannic acid and that could be reactive. It's always better to stick with non-metallic growing containers.
Good Growing!
