Hello

After hours of eye straining research I still don't understand how to set up a indoor greenhouse for some new carnivours plants.  I do have a windowsill that's perfect for most Sundews and Nepenthes but not for all Nepenthes and Cephalotus.  I recall in your DVDs of setting up a tank for the plants but will this provide the humidity for them?  My home is already supporting humidity around high 40s and low 50s, with night temps. to 65-75F and day time temps. of 75-90F.  If I can provide the conditions for the new Nepenthes and Cephalotus in a regular tank with the proper lights is there any items I will need to provide higher humidity or temps?

Hi Justin,

A big tank terrarium can provide just a little elevated humidity for plants such as Heliamphora, and it doesn't have to be covered completely, and is better if it isn't.  You already have fairly good humidity.

Cephalotus doesn't need warmer temperatures and can do just fine on a windowsill.  I like to set their pot down into a larger pot that comes up around the sides to block direct sun on the pots.  This helps keep their roots cool.  I've used this method with both Cephalotus and Drosera regia which also hates warm roots with great success.  I currently have both plant for almost two years now on my south facing kitchen window.

The plants that need warmer temperatures include lowland Nepenthes such as N. bicalcurata and N. ampullaria, and warm-growing tropical sundews such as the Drosera petolaris complex.  They also tend to be the ones that like higher humidity.
