Flytrap Mistake

Question
Hi! I repotted my Venus Flytraps just a few days ago (about 2 1/2 days ago) and I read today that carnivorous plants won't stand Lime. The problem is, I used a soil mix that had Lime in it. Luckily, I kept the original soil mix, so I potted the plants back into the original soil, but I'm still worried. So I'm wondering, will my plants make it? I have my flytraps in full sun (12-14) hours of direct sunlight sitting in standing distilled water just a few centimeters high and I do top water the soil now that the temperature is reaching over 100 degrees F. The original mix is the right mix of peat moss and perlite. I would like to know if the brief time that the flytraps were in the bad soil is going to kill them? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Kevin,

If it was only a short time it shouldn't be of any consequence.

During very hot weather, definitely top water your plants some.  It helps to oxygenate the soil and roots and cool them some.  Also if you are having an extended heat wave, try and situate your pots so that the sun doesn't hit the sides as much.  Placing them in a larger container that comes up around the sides often does the trick.  Still only keep the water level at about 1/4 of the way up the pot.

Good Growing!
