QuestionHi, I wanted to ask you about N rajah... If I live at 6200 feet ASL, in a semi dry and very warm temperate climate (frost is rare), can I grow N rajah out doors with relative ease? same with N villosa and N lowii. I think the only problem would be april and may, the hottest and driest months, but I could grow my plants indoors at that time...
Also, If I divide my Heliamphora, should I put the plants in a terrarium so they can recover properly after the division?
thanks, Alonso
AnswerHi Alonso,
This sounds ideal. During winter, do be aware if it looks like you might get a frost. Last year in Hawaii a grower we know there who lives on the Big Island lost a bunch of highland Nepenthes due to frost. They were at Volcano village at about 5,000 feet elevation and they got a freak cold spell. They hadn't seen an actual frost in years.
A little extra humidity for your Heliamphora after division is a good idea. If your plants had good root systems when divided they usually do fine. The terrarium is a good idea until they are established.
Good Growing!
