Question
I have been growing carnivorous plants in mass for about 3 months now and all of my plants are looking great. I have a filiformis that i got late last week. It is taking to its new pot quite well, bright green color and already has dew with some bug trapped on it. The problem is I looked at the crown of the plant right where new stems are growing and i noticed white cotton like material right where new growth is coming in. I took a small sample and it has the same texture and pulls apart just like cotton would. I didnt notice this when it first came in. (could have missed it) Is it a fungus? It isnt fuzzy like some fungus'I have seen it is more like intermingled hairs. any idea?

Hi Ken,

That material is normal on Drosera filiformis crowns, especially the Florida Giant and D. filiformis subsp. trayci.  It just seems to be something that helps to protect the crown of the plant.  Several other Drosera species have it also.  D. graminifolia has some, as do many of the Pygmy sundews.  If it were fungal, such as botrytis, your plant would probably be dead already. :(
