QuestionWill covering my greenhouse with a paper material window shade allow sufficient light to my nepenthes I have a small nepenthes in the greenhouse with the paper shade for three days and so far there has been no leaf burn but I was wondering if this will work or if I should just buy shade cloth?
AnswerHi Kyle,
Shade cloth is specific for horticultural use and comes in t different percentages of shade, from 20% to 80%. Paper shade isn't specific for horticultural use and may vary significantly to amount of shading it actually provides, depending on the thickness and quality of the paper. For long-term use, I don't recommend paper shade.
Depending on the type of greenhouse you have, shade cloth that provides 30-50% shade is fine for Nepenthes. We use 50% shade cloth on our Nepenthes. Shade cloth will also withstand the weather, whereas paper shade will only last one season. You can find shade cloth at most garden centers.
Good growing!
