QuestionHi. I visited your stand at the Portland market last summer and you had a carnivorous plant that grows in dry conditions. I was traveling so could not take the one you had for sale with me, but now would like to purchase one. I believe you said they are hard to ship but another nursery does so. Could you please provide me the name of the plant and the nursery? Thanks!
AnswerHi Steve,
It's called a Dewy Pine, or Portugese Sundew (Drosophyllum lusitanicum). They are natives of Portugal, Spain and Morocco. Here's the nursery that ships them: http://www.cascadecarnivores.com/
I noticed that Ron is out of the plants, but does have seed. In our DVD, "Grow Carnivorous Plants" volume #2, we have an entire chapter devoted to the Dewy Pine and how to raise them from seed. http://cobraplant.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=38&products_id=256&... Compared to many other carnivorous plants, Dewy Pines grow fairly quickly from seed. The cost of a packet of seeds and the DVD is way less than one potted plant. :)
Good Growing!
