QuestionHello I have a pitcher plant and it was rescued from lowes last spring. Well its red out in the direct sun so I figure its its either a red or a purple pitcher plant. the kit came with a dormant fly trap wich is a typical and the pitcher plant is a bulb so after planting the bulb in peat and spagnam moss i was curious on how long it could take to sprout.......thanks you're so helpful
AnswerHi Jonathan,
First, you're using the wrong soil mix. The ideal soil mix is equal parts peat moss and perlite. If you use only peat moss and sphagnum moss, your plants may rot out because of lack of aeration and water drainage. So repot your plants in the proper soil mix.
The time frame of when plants emerge from dormancy depends entirely on your local climate. Since you didn't provide me with your location, I can't comment directly on your situation. In general, you can expect to see a fully developed pitcher by June, regardless of where you live. Of course, this would be much earlier if you live somewhere very warm.
