Question
Nepenthes
This is a type of nepenthes that I recently purchased. Basically, I would just like to know which specific species of nepenthes it is. I have a feeling it is a nepenthes deroose alata or a nepenthes x ventrata. Whether it is or isn't a deroose alata can you please tell me the exact scientific make up of the hybrid i.e. which speices it is constructed from. At present the plant is grown in a west facing window and probably receives 2 hours of direct sunlight every few days and indirect light, but it still only is early spring here. Finally can I put this outside in the summer? I live in England so I'm guessing it will be ok but we often have lots of rain in the summer months. I have included a picture for identification. Many thanks in advance.
AnswerHi Chris,
Your plant is likely a Deroose Alata. We coined this term because Deroose Nursery (Netherlands) releases them as Nepenthes 'alata,' which is not a true species. It's actually a hybrid. When we asked them several years ago what the hybrid was, they told us it was Nepenthes alata x (alata x ventricosa). So to differentiate this plant from a true species, we refer to it as Deroose Alata.
This plant adapts well to a variety of growing conditions, so you can grow it outdoors with a minimal transition period. Provide similar to lighting to what it's experiencing indoors when you move the plant to outdoors.
Good growing!
