QuestionCan you possibly give me a link to where I can find pictures of Nepenthes Pitcher plants that are specifically native to SW Arkansas? I was walking along a river in Arkansas when I found some pitcher plants and I can't find anything to identify them.
Answer
Sarracenia alata
Hi Julie,
All Nepenthes are native to Southeast Asia and are totally tropical plants. None of them could tolerate a Arkansas winter. You probably saw a Sarracenia species, which are North American Pitcher plants. Check this page and see if it looks like any of these: http://cobraplant.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=10
After checking this area on a map, I would make an educated guess and say you probably saw Sarracenia alata, the Pale Pitcher Plant. I've enclosed a picture of a wild plant in East Texas.
Good Growing!
