QuestionHello!
I was going to purchase one of your D. Aliciae, when I notice you had in the descreiption... "The Alice sundew prefers cool temperatures, especially at night (45?- 65癋). Avoid temperatures above 85癋 whenever possible." but it's marked for a ZONE10 witch easily passes 85癋 could I grow this plant in direct sunlight in Florida?
AnswerHi Justin,
Drosera aliciae isn't that fussy of a plant, so you should do fine with it. They do slow down in growth during the summer when it's hot, so depending on your temperatures you might consider bringing into an air conditioned house for the hottest parts of the summer. You could also just arrange the plant so it would receive some shade in the hottest parts of the afternoon.Good Growing!
Addressing the USDA zone rating, the USDA climate zone ratings are based on the minimum temperatures an area is likely to see in the winter. It doesn't address maximum temperatures. I believe there is a heat index chart that rates that, but since far fewer plants are as sensitive to that as opposed to freezing, you don't hear much about it.
