QuestionWhat do you recommend for treatment on tropical/mexican pings for aphids and white flies? They've been preset for a couple weeks and are spreading, of course. Soil is sphagnum, coarse sand and perilite mix. I've had the plants for several years without this problem before. They're inside the house in south window here in Denver. I usually use rain water or RO water. Thanks!!
AnswerHi Lisa,
Use an insecticide based on imidacloprid. Bayer makes ready to use product. It is very low odor and is a systemic insecticide, so it will kill bugs you don't see. Be sure to follow the directions, and I recommend just spraying the crown of the plants. Butterworts tend to have leaves that are more delicate than many other carnivorous plants. If you have other houseplants, be sure to inspect them also, because they may have them also, and may have been the source of your outbreak.
Good Growing!
