QuestionI have been all over the site trying to figure out what would grow best in my setting.
I have an "indoor" garden setting. This room is for a vegitative setting, not flowering.
I decided to give the carnivorous plants a run in order to naturally control the gnat populations. I do not use any pesticides and etc in my garden.
The temp runs about 75-78 degrees, humidity can fluctuate between 50-70%, and gets approx 18 hours a day of diffused sun, supplemented with fluorescent lighting. I will be switching over to T-5's in the next two months.
What would you suggest for an effective indoor plant that will endure an ongoing tropical setting such as this? Thank you for your time.
AnswerHi Darren,
Tropical sundews are your best bet for a setting such as this. Go for those with long leaves such as Cape sundews (Drosera capensis), tropical dewthreads such as the all red Drosera filiformis, and Drosera adelae, the Lance Leaf sundew. Longer leaf butterworts would also work well such such as Pinguicula x aphrodite and Pinguicula monctezumea.
Keep in mind, however, that these plants may catch some fungus gnats, but they will not catch any plant pest insects such as aphids, spider mites, thrips, scale, etc... Those insects can attack carnivorous plants just like other plants.
Good Growing!
