QuestionHello. I have a P. Moctezuma that I purchased at one of your open houses last summer. I am growing it indoors under fluorescent lights. It had been doing quite well until recently and it just recently flowered. Suddenly, it seems to have lost its vigor. Leaves are dying off without any replacements being formed and it generally seems on a decline. I should mention that I have it in a standing water tray. I notice from the care sheets that it might be better to let it dry out a little. However, I have some other Mexican butterworts (different species) that seem to be doing fine in the water trays. Any advice you could provide would be appreciated. Thank you.
AnswerHi Robert,
Pinguicula moctezumae is very prone to rot if kept too wet. You plant may just be entering a dormancy, but if the decline happened very rapidly, it may be rot. Try salvaging what you can, transplant, and try using a larger pot. This will often help keep the soil a little drier.
Good Growing!
