QuestionHey, I started 6 nepenthes ventricosa cuttings on november 1. I let each of them have at least 3 leaves and cut off half of the leaf. I cut the stem at anangle and dipped it in a rooting hormone and then put them in cups of sphagnum mossin plastic bags approx. 6-8 inches below flurescent lights. Their is planty of growth coming out of the nodes but when I pulled One out to see if had grown roots their was no root development whatsoever. How long does it take for them to grow roots? Is there a way to speed this process up?
Thanks
AnswerHi Dustin,
Everything you're doing sounds good. If you're seeing new growth that is a very good sign. I would expect you to see some roots in a month or less. It can really vary on how long rooting takes from species to species, and on environmental conditions. The only other thing that might help is bottom heat. A plant heat mat that would get your soil temperatures up to 80 degrees would speed rooting some. I find here in our nursery that even when we use our aero-rooter, a device which sprays water on the cuttings, some species can take a couple of months or more.
Good Growing!
