double trap VFT

Question
I notice last summer that i had a double trap VFT. My question is the VFT will continue producing double traps? i got only one double trap and i was expecting more but did not get them last summer. If next time i pulled the double trap leave and planted that VFT will make more double traps?. Thanks for your help.

Answer

Red/Green Flytrap
Hi Edwin,

Probably not.  These types of mutations tend to not be genetic unless you see it happening on every leaf.  You could try leaf cuttings when a mutation like this occurs.  My guess is the plantlets would be normal, but who knows, you might get lucky.  Two years ago I had a breathtaking mutation occur on a Red Dragon flytrap where two traps developed Chimerism.  Half of the trap was green and half was red.  I tried a leaf cutting to no avail.  If we had propagated a couple hundred of those to sell I might have been sipping a Mai-Tai in Fiji. :)

Good Growing!
