Question
3 pitcher types
So i've had my CP's outside all year. I live in bay area CA..and the other day we had snow and then for the following week we had non stop rain. The nights are teetering bellow freezing so it is definitely winter time. On my Serracenia i can't see any of the spear shaped leaves that you guys mentioned in your podcast. Is it not cold enough here?!
(btw I LLOOVVEE the colors on the Flava..i basically had a mini photo shoot because i think the colors this time of year are amazing)
AnswerHi Matt,
Your plants look exactly as they should for this time of year. It's plenty cold enough. Just be sure to trim off dead foliage for good hygiene.
Not all Sarracenia produce phyllodia. The most prominent ones are produced by S. flava and S. oreophila, and somewhat by S. leucophylla. Hybrids are all over the place producing some, none, small ones, big ones etc... It just varies from plant to plant and also how big the plants are.
Good Growing!
