QuestionHi, I recently ordered a Nepenthes truncata 'Queen of Hearts' x 'King of Spades'. I odered it from PetFlyTrap.com, anyways I wanted to ask if anyone knows what kind of care this plant requires? I live in South Florida and I wanted to know how to care for this plant so I dont kill it when it arrives.
AnswerHello Rodrigo,
N. truncata is a very easy species to grow if you merely keep it in good light (partial sun or south to east window light or at least 12000 lumens of florescent light), keep it at normal room temperatures (70-80 degrees), and give it some distilled, reverse osmosis, or rain water every three or four days enough to keep its soil constantly moist, but never waterlogged. You can place a tray under the pot to catch runoff water, but avoid leaving standing water under the pot for over a day at a time as that can lead to root rot in Nepenthes.
I do not know if the place you ordered the plant from pre-adapts their plants to lower humidity or not. Some nurseries do, some do not. You might want to call them and ask if they pre-adapt their plants to lower humidity as a drastic change in humidity might lead to failure to pitcher and loss of present pitchers for weeks or months as the plant recovers.
Nepenthes are very tough and adaptable plants in general, so just give the plant what it needs and it will do the rest.
