ladybugs

Question
Hello.
Will any type of cp have a problem digesting ladybuys? We have so many of them in our house now because of migration. I just wondered if feeding my plants one or two of the insects would cause any problem because the ladybugs emit that foul-smelling odor when they are attacked or intimidated. I don't know what that chemical odor can do, besides stain fabric.
Better to use pine needles from the store or the branches I get for free in my yard to cover my outdoor cp's?
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Holly,

Carnivorous plants are not at all picky about the bugs they capture.  Lady bugs will be fine for the plants.  It's just a matter if the plants gorge themselves with more bugs than they can use.  At that point, the bugs start rotting in the pitchers and cause the pitchers to turn brown.

Pine needles are good to use as mulch.

Good growing!
