Winterizing Venus Flytrap

Question
I live in the Chicago area where it gets very cold in the winter. With that said, what is the best way to winterize a Venus Flytrap that has been grown outdoors very successfully? Presently the plant is starting to show signs of going dormant.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Tom,

The simplest method is covering your plant, pot and all, with mulch.  Use only wood chips, pine needles or aspen straw.  Cover the plant with about 8 inches of mulch.  Do this only AFTER you've had a series of nighttime frost and your daytime temperature is consistently in the 40s.  This might be late November for your region.

We also illustrate examples of winterizing in our e-book and DVD:

Good growing!
